Review: Night of the Huntress (The Brotherhood of Blood, Book 2) By. Kathryn Smith

Night of the Huntress (The Brotherhood of Blood, Book 2)

From the back of the book....

"I am the vampire known as Bishop. And I have sworn to destroy evil in this world."

Since the foul murder of my beloved wife three hundred years past, I have dedicated myself to the destruction of monsters. My obsession is rivaled only by the raging blood-lust that sets me apart from ordinary men. But now there is another who seeks vengeance as well. She is called The Huntress -- and when our paths cross, one of us must die.

But now that I have seen Marika Korzha, how can I be the instrument of her ruin? The beauty and courage of this determined vampire slayer move me in ways I no longer believed possible. And I alone know her dark secret. We are more alike than the exquisite Huntress realizes. We both crave justice...and passion...and absolution. And we dare not deny the desire that consumes us both...
Night of the Huntress (The Brotherhood of Blood, Book 2)

Review:

What I really liked about this story was the creative spin Kathryn developed for how Bishop and his brothers became vampires. I have read several vampire novels, and I'm always interested in their beginnings. In this second installment of the Brotherhood of the Blood series, Bishop is confronted by Marika who is a damphyr (half Vampire, half human). Marika's sole purpose in life is to hunt all vampires in her quest to find the one who is supposed to have murdered her mother. When Marika meets Bishop she thinks he is like any other soulless blood sucker, but she soon learns that he is more honorable then any man she has ever met. Bishop lost his one true love 300 years ago, he never thought he could love another but he is intrigued and captivated by Marika's courage, strength, and beauty. When Marika's threatened and her life is in danger, it is Bishop who comes to her rescue, and they both find out that they have bigger problems then either one of them could have imagined.

I loved this book, and I read it twice. The relationship between Bishop and Marika is emotional, hot, and very passionate. There is also a lot of page turning action, I literally couldn't put this book down I had to know what happened next. Marika and Bishop are two strong,  intriguing, memorable characters that you will absolutely fall in love with. The background behind the evil organization that is manipulating the Brother's and Marika is fascinating, as well. You don't find out right away, who is behind their evil plans but they drop enough bread crumbs, twist & turns that you will be wanting more.  Oh, and did I mention that this book is set in the 19th century? I stopped reading historicals a long time ago, but with this book it doesn't matter. There was enough suspense, intrigue, passion, and hot sex that you won't care what century the book is set in. This book could easily be read as a stand alone, you get enough of a back story on both lead characters that you are not lost or wondering what's going on. I highly recommend this book to Vampire lovers, I totally enjoyed it. I find myself thinking about Bishop and Marika's story all the time. SO.. If you want to read a hot paranormal featuring vampires, this is the book for you. (In my opinion)
